Dear Friends,

I am writing to you today to tell you about a great challenge that I am about to embrace, as I participate in the “Marathon du Cognac” half marathon in Jarnac, France, on November 8, 2008.

I hope to complete this race in order to achieve a number of milestones in my life; the greatest challenge of all is a goal to raise a minimum of $5,000 to set up a new extension of an important organization that is very close to my heart, the Ali's Rally Foundation.

I’m motivated to run to celebrate the life of Alison Gerlach, an extraordinary young woman and dear family friend. Ali, unfortunately, had a premature and untimely passing five years ago in February, 2003, when she was diagnosed with a rare disease called Moya Moya.

Upon her death, the Gerlach family chose to honor Ali’s memory by donating her organs to children and adults in need of a transplant as a reflection of her unselfish love. In her memory, and to continue to bring the Gift of Life to others, the Ali’s Rally Foundation was born and is connected to Upstate New York Transplant Services.

The funds raised will go directly to establish the Alison Gerlach Donate Life Scholarship Award. This award will provide a $1,000 scholarship each year for the next five years, to an outstanding high school senior, who through their participation in the Donate Life program, exhibits a high level of leadership and entrepreneurial skills, which enhances the goal of increasing awareness about organ and tissue donation among their peers and throughout the community.

It is my hope that through the generosity of people like you, that I can achieve this goal by the November 8th deadline.

If you would like to help support this challenge, donations in any amount will be greatly appreciated, and can be sent in the form of check, money order or cash to my address below.

Thank you for your friendship, and please know that you are all a very important part of my life!

Warmly,
Ellen
